Markets around the Scenic Rim

Monday, December 09, 2019

In our Scenic Rim Region we are very fortunate to have a number of country markets on the different weekends of the month. All the markets have their own individual atmosphere where stallholders vary in craft, produce and food.

The markets which are closest to Mt Barney Lodge are the Boonah Markets. These markets are held every second  and fourth Saturday of the month at Springleigh Park, Coronation Drive, Boonah from 7 am to 12 noon. You will find all kinds of bargains from plants to bric-abrac and food.

While you are visiting Boonah you should also explore the local town for its wares as well. A well-known store is Maynard’s Department Store in High Street where you will find a haberdashery of goods for young and old. Boonah also has art and photography studios and great cafes and bakeries to delight all. And don’t forget the historical Dugandan Hotel for a coldie and some tucker.

Also located between Mt Barney Lodge and Boonah is the township of Mt. Alford which is becoming known for its artisans’ markets. These markets commenced in 2017 and are held four times a year (summer, autumn, winter and spring) at Mt. Alford Hall, Reckumpilla Road, Mt. Alford. These markets feature recycled, upcycled, reused, handmade, organic, local products, crafted and curated by local artisans. Stalls include homemade ice cream, artisan bread, jewellery, plants, books, ceramics, original art works, vintage clothes, weaving, food, chutneys, vegetarian food, organic produce, macaroons, fresh herbs and lots more. The next market is Saturday 16 March 2019.

The markets are family and pet friendly. As an environmentally conscious community, Mount Alford Artisans Market is committed to reducing plastic waste and encourages market goers to bring their own bags to take home all their goodies. They also have a washing up station to self-clean the crockery and cutlery. Also, don’t forget to visit the Mt. Alford Hotel and the Scenic Rim Brewery which is coming known for its crafted beers.

Another community market which is worth a visit is the Darlington Community Country Markets in the lovely picturesque Kerry/Darlington Valley. These markets are held at the local Darlington State School usually four times a year. The market days are a day of fun for all ages in the family and they also have several artisans’ stalls. The food stalls are especially good. This market/fun day is special as you can make a day of it and picnic on the grounds of the school where the Albert River passes along side of it. Darlington School is approximately 35 mins from Beaudesert and 45 mins from Mt Barney Lodge.
