What is Nature Play Qld?

Recently there has been a great deal of media attention about our children becoming increasingly bound by the urban setting, with the increase in “screen time”.  In response to this concern, QORF (Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation) is rolling out a new initiative called Nature Play Qld.  It is aimed at encouraging Queensland’s young people aged 0 -12 back outside for unstructured playtime, and to receive all the associated benefits that go hand in hand.

Their tag line is “no child left indoors” – we love this!!

We have identified the similar ethos and philosophies of Nature Play Qld with that of our School Holiday Adventure Activity and CREATE program and will be incorporating Nature Play Qld into the content. But don’t worry, the adventure activities won’t change, if anything, they will become more exciting!

The CREATE program was developed by Mt Barney Lodge back in 2008 and is a range of activities that encourage children to explore, experience and interact with their surrounding environment.   Facilitated by our knowledgeable and qualified Outdoor Education staff, children are given the rare and exciting opportunity to explore the wilderness in around Mt Barney Lodge.

Our vision is for kids to engage, have fun, become immersed and connect with the natural environment and the outdoors:

“Have you ever really explored the bush? Have you tasted bush foods, touched a leaf that you were sure was sandpaper, smelt the zesty leaves of a bush lemon tree, listened to the cicadas, or created something out of every-day items?”

The CREATE program is part of our school holiday program.  See the next school holiday adventure activity program here.

Make sure you check out Nature Play Qlds website for resources and updates and while you’re there, become a member and register for your very own ‘Passport to an amazing childhood’!

Remember to keep in touch with Mt Barney Lodge via our blog and Facebook page to see how we will be supporting the roll-out of this program locally.
