Nathan is the survival expert in the Mt Barney Lodge Outdoor Leader team!
Nathan is a genuine, down to earth person who loves being in the outdoors. He grew up in the bush - on his family’s cattle and vegetable farm behind the Gold. He has always loved the bush and would rather be outside amongst nature in any conditions, than couped up indoors.
Nathan has had a varied career path that he says, has finally lead him to his dream job as an outdoor recreation guide. He believes that his previous jobs in horticulture, landscaping, construction, boilermaking and the military have all created the perfect balance of skills and an ideal platform for his career in the outdoors.
Nathan is qualified with a Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation (specialising in rockclimbing and abseiling) and has a current Wilderness Advanced First Aid certificate and Blue Card.
In Nathan’s spare time, he can be found rockclimbing at Mount French (in Boonah), one of his favourite climbing spots, or testing his hiking and survival skills somewhere in the vast and beautiful Scenic Rim or Hinterland. He is constantly looking for a physical and mental challenge in the outdoors and feels he has inner peace when he is climbing or hiking.
He created the concept of our 3-day Bushcraft and Survival Camp for kids (12-14 y.o.), teens (15-18 y.o.), and even adults (18+).
Check out these pages for details about the camps, and when they are offered next.
This 3-day all-inclusive camp has been created for adventure-seekers who want to gain skills and knowledge about survival in the bush, including searching for bushtucker and water, making shelter from found objects as well as out of tarp and rope, and learn how to light a fire without matches, and basic first-aid.
