Scenic Rim Brewery and Café

Thursday, December 01, 2016

Forty five’ drive from Mt Barney Lodge is the micro-town of Mt Alford (population 344) which now has a micro-brewery called the Scenic Rim Brewery.

Although beer is their core business, their beer has been developed to quench more than just your thirst. They say “The dedication of our craft brewer combined with the best ingredients, ensures an all-round sensory experience – after all, we have five senses and only one thirst.”

Michael is no home brewer – he has several years of brewing experience and has completed a course in Berlin.

The brewery also targets your tastebuds in their Café. Wendys Dutch background infuses the menu with traditional fare that appeals to the locals – they have realised “there is a large community of second and third generation Dutch and German people living in the area who love coming in and getting a reminder of food they had as children.”

Wendy makes sure the menu combines the best ingredients from the Scenic Rim with her favourite Dutch recipes.

Mike and Wendy Webster are also Brisbane tree-changers who moved out locally four years ago and have been slowly restoring the building themselves ever since. The original features of this 130-year-old former general store have been preserved where possible. It has so much old-world charm and history, and this is evident when you first see the heritage-listed facade of the store.

There are six beers on tap, three of them brewed on site in 1000-litre stainless-steel tanks. The range of beers that include a pale ale, a mid-strength pale ale and a red ale. With hand-drawn labels like “Diggas”and “Fat Man”, you will want to take some home for the next weekend BBQ to show n tell the friends!!

Take a virtual tour, via our facebook page here.
